Unwittingly, Gov. Quinn is forceing a decision on our family to decide where to live after Illinois is "Socialized". We are looking for a citizen friendly state to relocate and transfer all our business there.

I am a recent addition to the USA population [Came here in 1980 due to a company buyout] and I remained [Primarily] in order to give my sons the BEST education and chance in life - [OK I fell in-love the country too!, very much]
And how things have changed since then!!! It Is fast becoming a country that has less and less freedom and opportunity for self determination. I know it is still a BIG draw for people of areas that are oppressed and deprived life's luxuries to a large degree.
Yet choosing the USA in favor of the UK [My "third' home as I was a naturalized British Citizen, because I was born in Hungary, under a Soviet rule.A little country that drove a sharp dagger into the side of the "Russian Bear", without Western help!] may not result in the same decision today!
Freedoms are eroding, regulation increases and at a rapid rate. This is fast becoming a state of affairs akin to the Russian ruled communism I remember and escaped in 1956!
Why do we put up with all the corruption in the elected officials? Why do we re-elect them? Why do the voters of Illinois, a most noble of states, have no guts to evict these corrupt politicians? Is this not the land of Lincoln? A giant in our history? Why do we need the 'government' to tell us how and when to seek medical attention?
Wake up citizens of Illinois!! Take back your power and when you vote remember 'they' work FOR you, not dictate TO you!!

I am sick and tired of paying for state employees and teachers retirement, while the rest of us poor slobs have to figure it out! My real estate taxes have tripled and what is the biggest cause: Pensions! They should be on IRA's and Medicare like the rest of us.
Enough Already! Also if we stopped paying for illegal aliens with social security, education, etc and free hospital care, we might find a way out of this mess the democrats have gotten us into. Vote them all out!

Quote from Mr. Schiappacasse: "I like the idea of a short term income tax increase in combination with cutting govenrment jobs or benefits and spending, with a short term income tax increase to pay down debt."

Mr. Schiappacasse ... have you ever really SEEN a "short term" tax increase? "Short term" is the operative word for politicians trying to get an increase passed. For some strange reasons, the liberals fall in love with all of the cuddly new "short term" tax increases, and then they make permanent pets out of them. Once they're permanent pets, those "short term" taxes *will* increase ...

There's no such thing as a "short term" increase ... !

All a short term tax increase does is turn into a long-term tax increase. This gives license for the Democrats to spend, spend, spend. Where's the fiscal discipline? For several years my pay went down (I lost a good job around September 11, 2001) and hadn't made that kind of money until now. The rate of pay that I'm making now matches that rate of pay that I had back in 2001; however, I've lost all my savings and practically everything that I own. My pay, without being adjusted for inflation, is still much less (my dollar today buys much less than what it did in 2001).

I can only spend the money given to me by my employer. It is madness to spend on credit cards lets say and get yourself into a financial bind for luxury stuff. Remember, there's only one tax that I'm aware of that's been rolled back, and that was the one that Todd Stroger initiated the 1% Cook County tax. There is no short term tax - anywhere,

Here's a better idea to plug the deficit in Illinois.

1. Roll back tax cuts and fees and make Illinois more competitive with the states that are bordering us. Instead of driving business out of Illinois, if we were to change the law to attract business, then jobs would be provided for. With more businesses entering Illinois, they would share the tax burden, less taxes for all businesses, but more are collected. The law of economics.

2. Deport Illegal Criminal Aliens! This is a no brainer! When I was out of work, I worked at a coffee shop as a cashier and waiter making minimum wage. There are construction workers who are replaced by illegals. The fast food chains are notorious for hiring illegals, they discriminate against teen-agers and senior citizens who could use the extra income. With illegal aliens out of the work force and citizens back to work, the number of people on food stamps, section 8 and so on is that much less. Fewer people draw on the government and actually pay into the system. Less taxes for everyone because more people are paying into the system.

When going to vote, just vote out every single incumbent. And repeat, and repeat. Don't let the Dick Durbins or the Michael Madigans or the Strogers of the world become so entrenched and powerful that they can get away with anything they want to. For example, the inability to budget for the future when times are good and control the budget when times are bad. This is what every family should be doing why can't we expect our elected officials to do the same. On another note....I can get the name of goof who thought it was a good idea to send a letter to millions of people telling them that they're going to get a letter. (2010 Census Letter).
Brilliant!

I like the idea of a short term income tax increase in combination with cutting govenrment jobs or benefits and spending, with a short term income tax increase to pay down debt. We also need to work to reduce the number of governmental taxing bodies. Illinois has the most governmental taxing bodies. We have too many school administrators. We should reexamine the concept of unit school districts that the state abandoned in the 1980s.

Please get real, and quit pushing the problem into the future. Tax hikes and spending cuts that yield a balnced budget are needed NOW. Don't be a pansy.

I think it is totally absurd that these politicians think they can erase their defecit by taxing the working population, why dont they quit the bonuses and salary increases every quarter that the politicians get to help the budget defecit they created, we the working population did not create!!

No borrowing, no tax hikes, and no budget reduction and closing of programs in schools. Politicians can reduce their paychecks, and cut the crap out of Illinois' over-stuffed budget. Let seniors pay for their transportation - they never wanted to ride free to begin with.
